Every Donation Makes a Difference
Now, more than ever, Shelter Care needs your help. Although we receive funding from state and county resources, these funds are at an all time low. Your gift will help keep our parent education, prevention and mental health programs running at full capacity, lower our current waiting lists, and help ensure that the caseworker and staff support that our clients need are available.
A special thanks to:
Women’s Endowment Fund
A big THANK YOU to the Women’s Endowment Fund of the Akron Community Foundation for funding our “Wonder Women” program. This funding will provide evidence based programming for the young women who reside at Safe Landing and Shelter Care. We are also grateful to Rachel Whitehawk of Whitehawk Ranch for scheduling powerful group activities that are designed to help these young women ‘wonder’ about their full potential, make healthy decisions and begin the process of self-efficacy. We can’t wait to get started!
The Millennium Fund
Safe Landing youth are going to have some good times thanks to the funding offered by The Millennium Fund, a fund operated by the Akron Community Foundation. We received a grant that will let us teach the youth healthy coping skills using the WRAP curriculum (Wellness, Recovery, Action, Plan), fun art work called “Zentangle”, stress reducing yoga and interesting independent living skills. We work hard to make sure young people leave our program better prepared to handle the struggles of life. This funding will go a long way in allowing us to do just that!
Thank You Again, Millennium Fund!
“It takes a village to raise a child, and the Millennium Fund for Children is enriching lives of children far and wide.”
That statement is so true! Our Respite Program was the beneficiary of a grant request from the Millennium Fund and the funds will go towards enriching over 75 lives this year. While youth, ages 5 to 18, reside in our Respite Program we love to teach them new skills and provide them with creative recreational, educational and cultural activities. Sometimes, we wouldn’t have the money to do some exciting activities. Now, we do! Thanks to this great fund which is in partnership with the Akron Community Foundation and the Akron Beacon Journal. The Millennium Fund, which started in 1999, “provides resources for grassroots children’s program where even a small amount can make a big difference.”

Private Group Donation
A local group came through with a HUGE donation to help our Shelter Home Program! They gave enough to purchase a greatly needed vehicle to transport kids.
The Don Sitts Auto Group supplied us with a great deal on this low mileage, 2008 Chrysler Town & Country Minivan. Thank You Don!
Tuscora Park Health & Wellness Foundation
Thank you to the Tuscora Park Health & Wellness Foundation as we wrap up a year learning how to be healthy and well! Due to the grant funding our programs were able to participate in numerous creative activities that focused on physical well-being, stress management and good nutrition. Although we often can’t control the environment we live in, we can control our responses to it. By teaching children and youth how to maintain their health and wellness…mind, body and spirit…we can help them be successful in life and create a better community. Thank you for helping us to enjoy a better life!
The Mary S. and David C. Corbin Foundation
Thank you to the Corbin Foundation for supporting our SOS (Street Outreach Services) Program! Because of your generosity, homeless and at-risk youth in Summit County will continue to have a safe haven where they can come and receive valuable services to help alleviate their difficult situations. We are always grateful for your support of our programs and the children of our community!
The Hillier Foundation
We are so grateful to the folks at the Hillier Foundation! Their support of our SOS (Street Outreach Services) Program ensures that homeless and at-risk youth in Summit County can find comfort and practical assistance. We loved having the Trustees visit our ‘home’ and meet with our young people. The youth were able to share how the support they receive is valuable in changing lives! What a wonderful opportunity for funders to become friends!
Northern Ohio Golf Charities Does It Again!
Wow! Our SOS (Street Outreach Services) Program is going to love their new van! Thank you to the Northern Ohio Golf Charities for the funds to purchase a gently used van which will be used to help homeless and at-risk youth in Summit and surrounding counties. With a van, our staff will be able to provide more efficient services and make sure young people get to the resources that will be most helpful to alleviate their difficult circumstances. Thanks so much Northern Ohio Golf Charities!
Thanks to the Witan organization we are going to be purchasing some new furniture and supplies for both of the Safe Landing Youth Shelters. We enjoyed showing the Witan members around our shelter and sharing stories from our young people. We are also going to enjoy sprucing up our shelter because of the funds you provided. Thanks for your support!
